Marble

Whether you’re drawn to elegant veining, timeless light tones, or the distinctive character that only natural stone can offer, marble brings a truly luxurious finish to any interior.

An introduction to Marble

Marble is a stunning natural stone that is perfect for bathroom vanity tops, bath surrounds, and shower walls. It also makes a fantastic feature for bars, floors, and tabletops.

As a natural stone, each piece of marble is truly unique. The one you choose will have its own distinctive veining, tone, and personality.

Marble is formed when limestone is exposed to extremely high pressures and temperatures over millions of years. This natural process creates the beautiful movement, depth, and character that make marble such a sought-after material in interior design.

Unlike engineered materials, marble offers complete individuality. No two slabs are ever the same, which is part of what gives it such timeless appeal.

Suitable Applications for Marble

Why choose Marble?

Truly unique natural beauty
As a natural stone, every piece of marble is different, with its own veining, tone, and character.

Timeless luxury

Marble has been used for centuries in high-end interiors and remains one of the most elegant materials available.

Ideal for feature applications
It works beautifully in bathrooms, bars, floors, shower walls, and statement interior spaces.

Cool, smooth surface
Marble has a naturally cool touch and smooth finish, which also makes it a classic choice for pastry preparation.

Distinctive veining and movement
Unlike manufactured alternatives, marble delivers natural variation and organic patterning that cannot be replicated exactly.

A material with real character
Marble is chosen not for uniformity, but for individuality, depth, and the sense of nature it brings into a space.

Texture and finish

At Marble Interiors, we offer a selection of surface finishes tailored to each material and colour. Every finish is chosen to enhance the natural character of the stone while ensuring durability and ease of maintenance. The result is a surface that performs reliably over time, without the ongoing need for sealants or wax treatments. There are almost a limitless number of finishes available for marble, we typcially supply a polished or honed finish to the majority of our projects.

Maintainance

With marble, we are cautious and would not advise it for harsh environments where a more durable stone is required. However, when it is used, we would advise being vigilant with the maintenance of it.

Marble can scratch very easily, which is why we suggest the use of a chopping board when preparing food near marble surfaces.

When marble comes into contact with something acidic such as vinegar or lemon juice, the liquid can seep into the stone and cause marks. Red wine and fruit can also stain marble when spilt, as they may absorb into the stone and leave a permanent stain.

When cleaning marble, avoid the use of bleach or acidic cleaning products and only use marble-safe cleaning products.

When wiping the surface of marble, avoid coloured rolls of paper or coloured towels, as the dye can stain the porous marble surface. Abrasive materials can also scratch and damage the surface. We would recommend using a white roll or a soft, clean cloth for wiping down the marble.

As a general rule, never use anything on marble that you would not use on your hands. Avoid powdered cleansers, abrasive pads, and harsh household products. Sealers and cleaning products specifically designed for natural stone are always recommended.

FAQs

  • How is marble formed?

Marble is a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallised carbonate minerals. It is formed when limestone is exposed to extremely high pressures and temperatures and can take over 200 million years to form.

  • Can I use marble as my kitchen worktop?

It is not generally recommended. Marble, along with limestone and travertine, is made of calcium carbonate, which means its polished surface is more vulnerable to household acids including vinegar, mustard, citrus, and many other food-related products. These acidic substances cause a chemical reaction which removes the polish. Marble can also scratch much more easily than harder stones such as granite.

  • Does marble stain easily?

Yes, marble is a porous natural stone and can stain if substances such as red wine, fruit, oils, or acidic liquids are left on the surface.

  • What is the best way to clean marble and other soft stones?

Never use powdered cleansers, abrasive pads, or acidic cleaning products. Avoid products such as ammonia and harsh liquid cleaners. Always use sealers and cleaning products designed specifically for natural stone.

  • Can marble scratch?

Yes, marble can scratch very easily, which is why chopping boards and care during everyday use are strongly advised.

  • Is marble completely unique?

Yes. As a natural stone, every piece of marble has its own distinctive veining, tone, and personality.
